Today, I’m taking you behind the scenes of the website design project I completed recently for my client Shannon Parola.
Shannon is the founder of The Game of Nerds; a fandom and nerd-based site that gives fans and writers a safe place to talk and write about the things they love. They cater to all ages, genders, and everything in between.
For the past eight years, she has been the one doing everything for the website but now, as a mom of a toddler, she no longer has the time or patience to deal with it. (I think all of us moms can relate to this!)
The problem:
The Game of Nerds is Shannon’s baby and frankly holds the portfolio of A LOT of writers (her words, not mine).
Unfortunately, their current theme was no longer working properly and kept bugging out in certain situations. This was starting to make the authors mad and decreasing their traffic.
She knew deep down that her staff deserved to have a nicer and cleaner-looking website that will boost their traffic and ad revenue; one that is more functional and streamlined!
The Solution:
After one too many panic attacks when it came to making any updates to the current website, Shannon decided she’d much rather invest in my VIP Design Experience instead of dealing with more ‘quick-fix’ bandages and random CSS while crossing her fingers and hoping it works.
During her VIP Week, I revamped the entire website using Extra by Elegant Themes. This gave it the magazine look that they were shooting for that was more streamlined and efficient.

Before working together, what were your struggles with your website?
- I was struggling with a format and tech I had zero experience with. No matter what I did, it always looked “half-assed.” You gave the website the polished and smooth look it really needed.
How are you feeling about your website now that your project is complete?
- 100% better! Not only do I feel fantastic about the site, but my Mom Boss confidence is also through the roof to know that I have someone in my back pocket to call when I need help in these situations where I know I’m out of my zone of comfort!
In a few sentences, please tell me what you thought about the overall experience. What was your favorite part of your VIP Design Experience?
- You made this process so freaking easy. I’ve been dreading doing this for years only because of how labor-intensive everyone made it seem. You made it super simple, calmed my worries, listened to what my authors and I needed, and delivered.

- Worth every dollar not having to stress or worry. Tabitha made everything so easy and was available to answer all my “stupid” questions.
